GODTHRYMM Unveils 'Devils', a New Single's Video
UK doom metal group GODTHRYMM, boasting past members from bands such as My Dying Bride, Anathema, Vallenfyre, and Solstice, is set to release their second full-length album 'Distortions' on August 18, 2023 through Profound Lore Records. After the release of their first single 'Echoes', GODTHRYMM now offers a new tantalising insight into their upcoming album with the freshly minted music video for 'Devils', directed and edited by Ash Pears.
Bassist Bob Crolla expressed his thoughts about the release: 'In this release, we truly wanted to exhibit the different facets of GODTHRYMM. Considering the melancholy in Echoes, we felt that Devils would be an apt contrast. It’s a robust, head-banging metal tune, with a few surprises and imbued with the characteristic sorrowful doom DNA. For the video, we aimed to introduce the band as it is: no frills, no gimmicks or sophisticated graphics. Just us, in a room, performing the song. We’re extremely proud of this song and the video, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.'
'Distortions', the successor to 2020's widely-praised 'Reflections', witnesses the Halifax-based foursome elegantly evolving their sound and vision. With tracks like 'Follow Me', featuring former My Dying Bride ally Aaron Stainthorpe, 'Echoes', and 'Devils', 'Distortions' takes GODTHRYMM to the sacred corridors of the genre they profoundly revere.
GODTHRYMM’s Hamish Glencross noted: 'I sincerely wanted to create a much more complex arrangement in the sound, amping up the contrasts to the extreme—the brightness shines more, and the darker depths are vast trenches. There is more harmony and melancholy for most of it, but also some slab-heavy riffing. We desired a total progression in the production and more class and clarity in the sound, compared to Reflections, which could get quite dense in tone.'
'Distortions' is the second installment in Glencross’ Visions trilogy, with the third part, Projections, already underway. Throughout its hour-long journey of seven tracks, GODTHRYMM’s sophomore effort delves deeper into the melancholic march of post-pandemic singles 'Chasm' and 'In Perpetuum'. The album was recorded between The Nave Music Studio, Sasquatch Music Studio, and The Glencross Residence throughout 2022, and mixed by Andy Hawkins (Hark, Grave Lines). The album's artwork was curated by Andy Green (My Dying Bride).
'Distortions' will be out on August 18th via Profound Lore Records.
GODTHRYMM comprises of:
Hamish Glencross – Guitars/vocals
Catherine Glencross – Keyboards/vocals
'Sasquatch' Bob Crolla – Bass
Shaun 'Winter' Taylor-Steels – Drums
Al Kotwal – Live guitar
