GODTHRYMM, the epic doom metal band from Halifax, UK, has announced the release of their much-awaited sophomore album ‘Distortions’. Following the critical acclaim of their previous album ‘Reflections’, the new album is set to be released on August 18th through Profound Lore Records.
Featuring members such as Hamish Glencross and Catherine Glencross, who have been previously associated with legendary bands like My Dying Bride, Anathema, Vallenfyre, and Solstice, GODTHRYMM’s ‘Distortions’ showcases an elegant expansion of their sound and vision. The album is the second part of Glencross' Visions trilogy, and the seven-track, hour-long record delves deeper into the desolate march initiated by GODTHRYMM's post-pandemic singles ‘Chasm’ and ‘In Perpetuum’.
Hamish Glencross, speaking about the new album, said, ‘I absolutely wanted to create a much more layered and complex arrangement in the sound. Totally amping up the contrasts to the extreme – the light shines brighter, and the darker depths are vast trenches. There is a lot more harmony and melancholy for much of it, but also some slab-heavy riffing, too. We wanted a total progression in the production and more class and clarity in the sound, as opposed to Reflections, which could get quite dense in tone.’
Centered around themes of grief, loss, resolve, love, and determination, ‘Distortions’ is described as inexplicably heavy yet remarkably beautiful. The album was produced by Hamish Glencross and Andy Hawkins, with mixing by Andy Hawkins, and mastering by Mark Midgley at Northern Mastering Company. The artwork was created by Andy Green of My Dying Bride.
‘Distortions’ track listing is: ‘As Titans’, ‘Devils’, ‘Echoes’, ‘Obsess and Regress’, ‘Unseen, Unheard’ featuring Scoot Gladok, ‘Follow Me’ featuring Aaron Stainthorpe, and ‘Pictures Remain’.
GODTHRYMM, which formed in 2017, has already made a name for themselves as a formidable live act, having been invited to perform at major events such as Bloodstock Open Air, In Flammen Open Air, and Tomorrow’s Ghost Festival.
Glencross expresses his hopes for the album, stating, ‘I hope we continue to evolve and progress. The sound is decidedly more complete [on Distortions] than the previous incarnations, which are quite primitive. I hope people connect with the passion and love we have put in. The themes are universal and eternal. I’m very grateful and touched any time anyone appreciates our work.’
‘Distortions’ is now available for pre-order at THIS LOCATION and will be available on all digital platforms starting from August 18th.
