JASON NEWSTED revealed that Alex Van Halen asked him to join Van Halen
Jason Newsted knows a thing or two about offering steely riffs and cranked-up rock. He has earned worldwide adoration with his work in major industrial bands like Flotsam And Jetsam; and as Metallica's second bassist, he laid down the booming low-end and brought a new level of dynamic live performance to the biggest metal band on the planet.
In an interview with The Palm Beach Post, Newsted has revealed that he was invited to play with Alex Van Halen and Joe Satriani last year but as soon as they went into the rehearsal space, he just didn’t feel right to join the legendary group.
The Palm Beach Post reported that Alex Van Halen had already tapped Joe Satriani to replace Eddie Van Halen (who passed away on October 6, 2020), and that the duo was searching for a bass player for a possible Van Halen tour.
Jason Newsted says that Alex Van Halen contacted him about the possibility and really wanted him for the job. However, Newsted was apparently a bit uncomfortable about joining the band and didn’t take them up on their offer.
