The formidable force that is MOUNTAIN WIZARD DEATH CULT strikes back with their latest and most compelling work yet – a riveting 8-minute post-metal exploration titled 'Orbital'.
Diverging from the relentless nature of their prior release 'Initiation', 'Orbital' invites listeners on an out-of-body journey into the cosmic abyss. Choosing to focus on atmosphere, texture, and heavy rhythms, MOUNTAIN WIZARD DEATH CULT masterfully convey the emotional intensity of their sound.
Their accompanying video is a cinematic masterpiece that bears closer resemblance to a short film than a traditional music video. Carefully composed frames keep viewers captivated as tranquil stillness transitions smoothly into hypnotic chaos.
When it came to developing the visual components for 'Orbital', MOUNTAIN WIZARD DEATH CULT embraced the idea of collaborative creation and external interpretation, as suggested by the track's title. The band teamed up with Chris Elder of Haus Party, known for his work with Northlane, Thy Art Is Murder, and Polaris. Elder's task was to convert the band's auditory creation into a visual format. As lead vocalist JJ eloquently described:
'MWDC are continually working in collaboration with other artists and creative talents seeking out other perspectives and interpretations of the music we create. We have so many amazingly talented and brilliant people in our lives that make beautiful art, we want them to express what they encounter with the music with minimal influence from us directly -, exactly like how we approached this video with Chris, we gave him an open brief and creative control and honestly the results speak for themselves.'
In tandem with the release of 'Orbital', MOUNTAIN WIZARD DEATH CULT has embarked on their Orbital Australian Tour, with shows planned in Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, and Gold Coast over the coming weekend.
