Quorthon abandoned Satan for Odin on Hammerheart in 1990 and handed the whole thing its sound: choirs, horns, and tempos that move like an oar stroke. Enslaved took it into black metal, Amon Amarth took it onto festival main stages, and the longships have not left since.
