Wooden Shadow have released Blackened Roses Fall, the second song from Silverlake. The album is out on 19 November through Inverse Records.
Everything on a Wooden Shadow record is Jeremia Ponto: instruments, vocals, composition, lyrics. Which makes the one thing that is not him the news. Jaana Juntunen sings on this song, and Ponto said what he wanted from her was the emotional nuance the melody carries on its own.
His own line about it is the better description than anything a press release would write: it is like a tear making its way through the forest. The song is about the longing left behind when someone is not coming back.
Silverlake is the second album, ten tracks, with Hannes Vuohijoki on the artwork. One of the ten is an acoustic medley that reaches back to Overture Of The Cruelty, the project's first single from 2022, which is a short history for a project to be revisiting already.
Ponto has been at this since 2020 out of a town most people outside Finland could not place, and what comes out of it sits between melodic black metal and folk without committing fully to either.
