As the Sun Falls have released Viimeinen Aamunkoi on its own. It was written during the sessions for Songs From The Veil and did not make the album.
Most songs in that position stay on a hard drive. This one came out because it does not belong with the rest: the album was about death and what follows it, and this is about Northern mythology, the landscape and the instruments that go with them. A kantele runs through it, which is not a decoration on melodic death metal but a different register of melody altogether.
The story in it is an old one. A celestial reindeer is chased across the sky by the Great Archer, night after night, and the chase is the point: if the arrow ever lands, the last dawn never comes and the world goes dark. The title translates as The Final Dawn, and the lyric is entirely in Finnish.
Songs From The Veil was the band's third album and came out in May through Theogonia Records. A standalone single five months after it, built from an offcut, is a sign of a band with more written than released.
