The memorial for Andy Williams has a date and a place. Friday 13 November, the Garden AMP in Garden Grove, California, hosted by Violent Gentlemen, with The Ghost Inside, Beyond Repair, Turmoil, Strife, Atomic Rule and Darasuum among those slated to play. The full bill has not been published.
Williams played guitar in Every Time I Die for the whole of that band's life, and spent a decade in professional wrestling as The Butcher. He died last month at forty eight, after a medical emergency during a match in Western Pennsylvania.
The line-up reads like a map of where he actually stood. Turmoil and Strife come from the hardcore that formed him, The Ghost Inside from the generation that grew up on his band, and Atomic Rule is the group he was playing in most recently. A memorial assembled that way is not a tribute concert so much as a roll call.
That it is being hosted by a clothing company founded in hockey culture rather than by a label or a promoter fits the two lives he led. Both of them were built out of the same crowd.
