Abyssus have put out The Prophecy, and it is the blunt one: the third single from The Reign trades the old school death metal the Athens band are known for against something closer to punk and grindcore. The album, their third, arrives on 23 October and follows 2022's Death Revival.
Vocalist Konstantinos Analytis described the song as a concentrated departure. “It's raw, aggressive, and straight to the point, delivering its message without compromise,” he said. He also expects it to stay in the set. “It's also one of those tracks that was made for the stage, and we're certain it will earn a permanent place in the setlist of our upcoming live shows.”
The lyrics reach the end of the world through the weather, drawing on recent natural disasters, which Analytis connects to his own worry about how destructive those have become. The rest of the album stays with the band's stated debts to Death, Obituary, Benediction and Bolt Thrower. Andreas Marschall, who illustrated the previous record, returns for the cover, and the album carries guest work from Konstantinos Foukarakis of Rotting Christ on lead and rhythm guitars and Fotis Benardo of Nightfall on drums.
