Agalloch have released The Watcher's Monolith again, remixed and remastered, with The Weight of Darkness beside it. That second song has existed only inside the 2010 tour box until now, which is the part of this worth knowing.

Both belong to the Marrow of the Spirit period, the record that took this band out of the reach of the genre press and into places that do not normally write about atmospheric black metal at all.

Four shows are now on the sheet and none of them is a tour. Andkristni Festival in Reykjavik from 17 to 19 December, Prepare the Ground in Toronto in early June, a night at IF Performance Hall in Istanbul on 12 September, and Meh Suff in Hüttikon the week before it.

That pattern is the band themselves. They broke up in 2016 because John Haughm wanted to tour full time and nobody else did, and the version that reunited in 2023 plays festivals and little else. Don Anderson and Jason William Walton are still beside him, as they have been since 1995 in Portland.
