Agrimonia have announced Of the Shadows, their fifth album, out on 11 December through De Records.
It is their first since Awaken, which Southern Lord released in January 2018, and the gap is slightly over eight years. The record runs six tracks and opens with "In the Silence Engraved", which is streaming now as the first preview.
Six songs is normal arithmetic for this band rather than a short album. They have worked in long forms since forming in Gothenburg in 2005, building out of crust and sludge into something closer to post-metal, where a single piece can take ten minutes to arrive at the riff it was always going to use.
The label change matters too. Southern Lord carried the last two records and gave them an international audience, so moving to De Records for the fifth puts a Swedish band back with a smaller operation at exactly the point most bands go the other way.
This is the fourth full length in the catalogue after a 2008 demo.
