All Shall Perish have launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund their first album in fifteen years, following the release of the single "Be As Kings, Be As Gods". The target is $75,000.
The band has published the split: $30,000 to finish recording (40 percent), $18,000 for videos (24 percent), $8,250 for promotion, $7,000 as contingency, $5,000 for mastering and $6,750 in platform fees. A second song is promised if the goal is met.
The interesting number is not the total but the $6,750 line. Nine percent of everything the fans put in goes to the platform before a single note is recorded, which is roughly what a small label would once have taken in exchange for doing the work themselves. The band is explicit that there is no label, no contract and no manager this time, and that the money buys them the record on their own terms after what they call "seemingly endless years of lawsuits, fights, and setbacks".
The campaign runs alongside a North American tour that starts on 4 September in Fresno and ends on 3 October in San José, with stops including Chicago, Toronto, Montréal, Brooklyn and Atlanta.
