Angel Witch playing "White Witch" at Rock Hard Festival this year has been published by Rockpalast, professionally shot and mixed, which is a different thing from the phone footage that usually comes out of a festival.
Rockpalast has been filming bands for German television since the seventies and its archive is one of the few reliable records of how acts of this generation actually sounded on stage rather than on tape. Having a 2026 set added to it matters more for a band like this than another single would.
They started in London in 1976 under the name Lucifer, which makes this their fiftieth year, and they belong with Iron Maiden and Saxon at the front of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal without ever having had their commercial moment.
The occult lyrics and the slow, melodic darkness went on to matter enormously to doom metal, a genre that borrowed the atmosphere and the tempo and kept both.
