Apocalyptica have been certified in the United States: gold for Worlds Collide and for "Not Strong Enough" with Brent Smith, double platinum for "I Don't Care" with Adam Gontier.
The record came out in 2007. A certification arriving nineteen years later is not a sign that anything happened recently; it is the arithmetic of streaming finally catching up with a catalogue, which is how most of these awards are earned now. A song that sells steadily for two decades reaches the same threshold as one that sells fast for six weeks, and the band know exactly which of those they are.
"It took us a while to reach this, but that just shows that we're a band that prefers to keep a steady pace, perhaps not the fastest, but patient and determined," they said.
What the thank you list shows is the other reason it worked: Gontier, Smith, Corey Taylor, Cristina Scabbia, Till Lindemann, Dave Lombardo, Tomoyasu Hotei and Doug Robb all passed through these records. Four cellists from a conservatory built a career on being the band everyone else was willing to sing for.
