Apotheus have released Boundaries, the second song from The Complex Permutation, and it carries a guest vocal from Björn Strid of Soilwork.
The placement matters more than the guest list usually does here. Boundaries is the first chapter of the story the album tells, so the voice arriving alongside Miguel Andrade is the one that opens the narrative rather than decorating a later track. Andrade himself moves between clean singing and growls across the song, after an atmospheric prelude that gives way to heavy layered guitars.
The band describe the subject in terms that fit a first chapter. "There is a moment when everything you know stops being useful to you," they said. "Boundaries lives in that instant, when time, space and certainty begin to fade, but something inside you still refuses to give up."
The album is the Portuguese band's fourth and arrives on 20 November, with a science fiction story published separately in written and audio form. They sent Key Keeper out first, which is the song about holding a power you decide not to use.
