Archon Angel have dated Beyond The Grave for 11 December on Frontiers. The title track is out with a lyric video and it is the third album the project has made.
The project is two people: Zak Stevens, who sang on the Savatage albums between Edge of Thorns and The Wake of Magellan, and Aldo Lonobile, the Italian guitarist and producer who has built half of Frontiers' current roster from behind the desk. Fallen came in 2020, II in 2023, and this is the third in six years, which for a side project with two busy people in it is a working rhythm rather than an occasional reunion.
What the label calls cinematic songwriting means, in practice, the shape of a Savatage record without the theatre around it: long melodic lines, the voice carrying the song rather than decorating it, and arrangements built to sound larger than the number of people who made them.
Stevens still tours with Savatage and with Trans-Siberian Orchestra, which is why this band exists in gaps rather than in seasons.
