Arckanum have a tenth album coming, which is news in itself: Metal Archives lists the project as active from 1992 to 2018 and then again from this year. Beswaerilsin arrives on 31 October through Darkness Shall Rise Productions, and Mz Fianda Rathi is the first song from it.
The title is given as Worthy of Opposition. The lyrics are in Old Swedish, drawing on Old Norse and Swedish poetic traditions and on svartkonst, the Swedish term for the black arts, and they are meant to work as incantations as much as narrative. Fenrir and Ragnarok are in there, which they have been since the beginning.
Shamaatae has played everything on every Arckanum record since 1992 and that has not changed. The label describes the production as deliberately raw and unpolished, with the album moving between colder, primitive passages and more forceful attacks rather than adding ornament, and the single as a high velocity piece built on aggressive riffing and sudden shifts.
Thirty four years, ten albums and an eight year silence between the ninth and this one. An EP, Motestandarin, came out earlier this year on the same label, which was the first sign the project had restarted at all.
