As I Lay Dying have finished recording their ninth album, due in early 2027 through Napalm Records. It follows Through Storms Ahead, released in 2024.
They recorded twelve songs and intend to keep ten, and rather than settle the argument internally they are putting it to the people who will buy the record. Two of the candidates, "Polarized" and "Retribution", come out in full on 15 September, with a vote to follow.
Tim Lambesis explained the choice in a video message. "So we finally finished recording the new As I Lay Dying album, and we did twelve songs with the intention of keeping ten. We've had a lot of conversations amongst us trying to figure out what those ten songs are, and we figured we should bring you guys in on the conversation."
The two tracks were picked to mark the edges of the record. "'Polarized' is quite a bit more melodic, mid-tempo, a little bit more singing, but still very heavy and driving. And then 'Retribution' is just fast, dark and heavy, no singing at all whatsoever. So those are the two ends of the spectrum."
