Fourteen places in two years is a slow climb and a real one: Asenblut's Urgewalt has entered the Official German Album Charts at number 11, where its predecessor Entfesselt stopped at number 25 in 2024. It is the highest the band from Gottingen have been at home in twenty years of work.
The record came out on 18 September through Massacre Records, which makes the entry a first week figure rather than a slow build, and for a band of this size in Germany a top twenty album placing is the sort of number that decides what the next touring cycle looks like.
Musically nothing was thrown out to get there. Urgewalt keeps the melodic death metal the band have built on, with the pagan and viking threads and the atmospheric passages that have been part of their sound for most of two decades. The band are on the road behind it as the Bruderschaft Tour, playing Selb tonight and Gottingen tomorrow, with Loffingen on 14 November, the Walhalla Festival Der Helden in Neumunster on 12 December and Munich on 22 May 2027.
