Autumnfall release The Archaic Sins today through Ardua Music, and the whole thing is streaming, premiered by Invisible Oranges.
It is the record whose songs are older than most of the band's catalogue: the material was written between 1998 and 2001, a quarter of a century before it was recorded, and the band put out Crystal Skies from it earlier this month.
It follows The Archaic Shadows from 2024, which the title makes into a deliberate pair, and before that Bleak in 2022 and Ghosts of Light in 2021, with the Nimetön / Taival EP in 2023.
The band works out of Veneskoski and has done since 2019: Tero Ruohonen sings, Jussi Hänninen plays guitars and bass, and Olli Pirkkanen has drummed since 2021. Finland has a long habit of melodic black metal that is more sad than hostile, and this is squarely in it.
