Avulsed have recorded Eminence in Putrescence again, thirty years after they made it, and the edition carries both versions so nobody has to choose.

Dave Rotten is the only person on both. Of the five who played on the 1996 record he is the one still there, and he is clear about what that means. "The current lineup brings its own personality and approach to these songs, and that's precisely what makes this new version worthwhile," he says. "We're not trying to imitate the past, correct it or replace it, but to discover what happens when these compositions pass through our hands again, thirty years later."

The hard part, he says, was keeping the spontaneity and rawness of a debut while using thirty years of knowing better. Joe Petagno's original illustration stays.

The other thing the anniversary fixes is stranger. Songs from the album have turned up in sets for decades, but the band have never played it from beginning to end in sequence, not even in 1996. Four Spanish shows starting three days after the Redux will, with Fleshcrawl and Carnation on the bill.
