Tony Iommi has confirmed to the BBC that he plays on the album William Shatner is making under the name The *uckers.
"He sent me a track and I really liked it," the Black Sabbath guitarist said. "I put a riff to it and built it up. He has a quirky singing style. He more or less speaks it, but his lyrics are great. I enjoyed doing that. It was very different."
The guest list has become the story. Brian May has joined Rob Halford of Judas Priest, John Moyer of Disturbed and Dave Lombardo, and more names are being held back. Adam Hamilton and Brian Perera of Cleopatra Records are producing, with Derek Hughes, Marcus Nand and Jurgen Engler of Die Krupps also involved.
The live band that played Riot Fest in Chicago had Nand on guitar and directing, Phil Soussan on bass, Britt Lightning of Vixen on guitar and Fred Aching on drums.
Shatner is ninety five and has said his cancer is what pushed him into doing this at all. Whether the record is a curiosity or something else, the people on it are not treating it as a joke.
