Blaze Bayley has talked again about the heart attack he had in March 2023 and the quadruple bypass that followed it, this time to Remzi Yates of Rocking With Jam Man.
What he describes is not fear. “I didn't have a near-death experience, so I never felt in fear of losing my life,” he said. “I always felt like, 'Oh, this is really embarrassing that I've had a heart attack, and maybe I could've avoided it.'”
He also corrected a piece of the story that has been told wrong since. The album people assume was written in recovery was already done. “I'd finished my album the day before my heart attack,” he said. “People think I wrote it afterwards, but no, I finished it before.” What the event changed was the appetite for the next one: “I have another album in me that I need to say. That was the main thing.”
Bayley has put out eleven albums under his own name since 1999, which is more than twice what he made in the years people still stop him about.
