Brother Against Brother will release The Legion Awakens on 18 December through Frontiers Music, five years after the self titled album they put out in the year they formed. When Gargoyles Ruled The Earth is the first single and arrives with a video.
The project is built around two singers rather than one, and both are back: Renan Zonta of Electric Mob and Nando Fernandes. That arrangement is the band's actual idea, not a guest spot, and it is also what makes the writing credits matter. Marcelo Gelbcke of Landfall writes and produces, which means the songs are shaped around two voices from the start rather than split afterwards.
Gelbcke describes the single as heavy aggressive riffing set against melodic passages, with a constant contrast between darkness, power and melody. On a Frontiers release that description is close to a house style, and the test is whether the two voices do something a single singer could not.
A December release date is an unusual choice, with most melodic metal albums pushed into January to clear the Christmas shops. Five years between records suggests the band was less willing to wait another quarter.
