Burial Ruthless have a video for Southern Death, from Held By Evil, the album that arrived on 14 August through Great Dane Records. It is their first, and the band formed in 2015.

Eleven years between forming and a debut album is a number with a story in it. The band started in Maturin in Venezuela and is now based in Barcelona, with players connected to Venezuela, Ecuador and Spain. Between those two points sit an EP in 2019 and a run of singles, which is what a discography looks like when the line up is spread across a continent and an ocean.

Forty three minutes, and the writing does not sit in one place. The technical side is the frame, with brutal passages set against progressive turns and atmospheric sections, and song titles like Conditioned for the Womb and Groove Plastic and Antropophagist say plainly that nobody involved was aiming for the polite end of the genre.

Southern Death is the third piece of video from the record, after a clip for Demons Within and a playthrough for Mutilated Mind. For a band putting out a first album with a small label, that steady drip is the whole campaign, and it is the reason a record from August is still being discovered in October.
