Mike Peters plays his last shows as Cancer Bats' touring drummer at the end of September. From October, Ian Romano takes the seat.
Peters gave the reason plainly. “I've had a pretty solid 25 year + run of life on the road,” he wrote. “It was amazing but it's on to a new chapter and adventure.” In a second statement he was more specific: “I have two young kids at home that I need to be home for. I helped create them so I should be at home to help raise them into good responsible citizens of the world.”
He is not leaving the band. He keeps writing and recording with them, manages them and books their North American dates. “I still plan to work behind the scenes with the Bats,” he wrote, naming Liam, Jaye and Jackie and saying he wants them to carry on.
Romano has known him more than twenty years, from when Cancer Bats toured with his band Attack in Black, and he recorded the vocals on Give Me Dirt and on the latest Bat Sabbath EP. Peters called that record the best the band has made.
