Carnation have released Blackmouth, which opens Symphony in Flesh, their album due on 16 October.
The lyric is about how hostility reproduces itself. It starts with constant criticism drawn as vultures circling something vulnerable, a comparison the band point straight at social media, and then turns: the person who was under attack becomes a predator too, doing what was done to them. That is a harder ending than the genre usually writes, because it refuses the victim their innocence.
Nine tracks, and the band describe the record as going back to the foundations of what they do rather than away from them. Blackmouth carries that: blast beats and groove and riffs built to be remembered rather than endured.
They play Zappa in Antwerp on 7 November, announced as their only album release show in Flanders this year.
