Chaosbay have signed to Metal Blade Records, who will release the band's next album in March.
The timing is what makes this worth noting. Chaosbay are not a new band being picked up: they have four albums behind them, from Vasilisa in 2015 through Asylum, the concept record 2222 and Are You Afraid? in 2024, and they made all of them without a label of this size behind them.
"EGOSYSTEM" arrives with the announcement, the third standalone single from the album, following one in July. Releasing three songs before a label is even named is a strategy that belongs to a band who were already running their own campaign and have now handed the distribution to somebody else.
Metal Blade describe them as one of the most forward thinking bands in modern metal, which is the sort of phrase a label uses when a band does not sit in one genre. What they actually do is progressive metal with the modern heavy end attached, out of Berlin, and in March it will reach a far larger room than it has so far.
