Contrarian have announced Escaping Depravity for 27 November on Willowtip Records, and what they have released from it is the unusual part: the single is parts one to four of a thirty minute title track, and that track is the album.
One song, one record, split into numbered parts that come out as singles. Progressive death metal has done long pieces before, but almost always as the centrepiece of a record with other songs around it. Putting nothing else on the album removes the usual escape route, which for a band six albums in is a confident way to spend a release.
It was recorded at Watchmen Studios and Seventh Silver Spike Studios and mixed and mastered by Atrox Productions in Rochester.
