Crimson Day have released The Outsider, from Dark Dimension, which is out now through WormHoleDeath.
The idea behind the song, in the band's own framing, is that fitting in has a price and the price is a part of yourself. Their protagonist decides he would rather stay outside and keep it. That is an old subject for heavy metal and it is still the right one, because the genre has always been for people who made that calculation and came out on the same side.
Thirteen years in Tampere, four albums, and a steady run of singles between them. Dark Dimension follows the self-titled record of 2023, which is a short gap for a band at this level, and WormHoleDeath have kept them on the roster long enough for it to look like a plan rather than a punt.
What they play is heavy metal with no qualifier needed: melody carried by the vocal, riffs built to be played live, nothing borrowed from the extreme end. Finland has a surplus of bands doing far stranger things, so a band doing this one properly stands out more than it would anywhere else.
