Crucivore have released a video for The Banished Torment, the third song out of Desecration after Depths of Despair and Devourer of Existence.
The word debut is doing odd work here. The band have existed since 14 December 2024, when Ricardo Proenca left Analepsy and started this with guitarist Sergio Pascoa of Downfall of Mankind, so the first album arrives made by people who have already spent a decade each in the Portuguese underground.
What they say they are after is death metal with brutal death and slam in it, built around dynamics and what they call cinematic atmosphere rather than one speed held for forty minutes. On the evidence so far that is accurate: the songs change shape.
Caesar Craveiro, the bassist, recorded, mixed and mastered the album at Fingerprint Studio Lx in Lisbon, and Bjorn Atldax did the artwork and layout. Fourteen tracks, three of them now public.
Portugal has quietly become one of the better places in Europe for this kind of record, and a band assembled out of three other bands from the same city is how that happens.
