Crypta have released A Portrait Of Decay with a music video. It is the first track to carry the line up the band completed in April, when Victoria Villarreal became their permanent second guitarist.
That makes four: Fernanda Lira on bass and vocals, Luana Dametto on drums, Tainá Bergamaschi on guitar and Villarreal. All four have been in place since April; the recording waited until June, in Belgium, where Yarne Heylen engineered, mixed and mastered it at Project Zero Studio. Marcos Miller, a Brazilian artist, did the artwork.
Dametto wrote the script for the video herself and explained why it does not look like the song sounds. “The video clip is both an almost poetic contrast to the harsh death metal sound but also a cinematic depiction of the lyrics,” she said, describing a dreamlike landscape that stands for someone's clear thoughts and then dissipates as the surroundings darken. The song itself is about dissociation as a way of getting through pain.
The band formed in São Paulo in 2019 and have two albums, Echoes of the Soul and Shades of Sorrow. They start a North American tour on 5 October with Arch Enemy, The Black Dahlia Murder, Septicflesh and Thrown Into Exile.
