Dantalion release their self titled tenth album on 1 November through Base Record Production, and have put "Whispers From the Inner Abyss" out ahead of it.
Naming an album after the band at the tenth attempt is a declaration rather than a shrug. It usually means a reset, and in this case there is something to reset: the Spanish group began in black metal, spent a stretch of the middle of their catalogue in melodic death and doom, and have come back to where they started.
Seven tracks, none of them short: "Born of My Own Damnation", "Ascend Through Ruin", "Whispers from the Inner Abyss", "Where the Hidden Demons Rise", "The Temple of Internal Ruin", "The Fire Beneath My Skin" and "The Inner Void", most of them past five minutes.
Ten albums puts them among the most productive black metal bands Spain has, which is not a crowded field. Seventeen releases in all, and almost none of it has travelled far beyond the Iberian scene.
