Dark Angel will have new music out before the end of the year, Gene Hoglan says, and if he is wrong he expects to be wrong by a month or two.

He was asked about it by Rexx Ruger of Pod Scum, and the answer carried an admission most bands avoid. A lot of people are completely unaware of the last album, he says, and the majority do not know Dark Angel have one out at all. Extinction Level Event arrived digitally in September 2025 through Reversed Records, thirty four years after the one before it, and it reached a smaller room than its history suggested it would.

What follows it he will not describe except in the terms he has always used. For anyone unfamiliar, the band are going to punch you in the face. For anyone who has followed the recent history, he expects a different reaction entirely. They are, in his words, on the absolute cusp of being able to announce some things.

The title track of the last record was written by Jim Durkin more than a decade before he died in 2023, which is part of why that album mattered to the people who did hear it.
