David Reece sang on one Accept album and then did not speak to Wolf Hoffmann for forty years. In August the guitarist emailed him.

Reece told Chris Akin on The Classic Metal Show that he had been ignoring telephone calls from an unfamiliar American number before the email arrived. "We're now speaking again," he said.

Eat the Heat came out in 1989, with Udo Dirkschneider gone and an American in his place, and it is the record the band's own audience has argued about ever since. Reece was out before the year ended.

The silence had a recent edge to it. Accept's fiftieth anniversary release, Teutonic Titans 1976 to 2026, came out in September with a new version of Hellhammer, a song recorded during Reece's time, sung by Jason McMaster of Dangerous Toys. Reece has admitted he was disappointed not to be asked, while noting that people have kept the song alive anyway. Nothing in the interview suggests a reunion or a guest appearance. They are simply talking.
