Dark Angel and Death To All tour Australia together in January 2027, and Gene Hoglan plays in both of them every night.
Asked what makes that hard, he did not say the drumming. "If we were on a tour bus for that run, I'm into it. We fly from show to show, and we have, like, three shows in a row kind of thing," he told The Downbeat Podcast. "And I am a serial napper. Everybody knows that I am a napper before the show, and that's how I get my energy for it. And you don't get naps when you're touring Australia."
His answer to that is not what a drummer of his reputation is supposed to say either. "I drink superfood before I go on stage. I try not to do the things like the Red Bulls and all that," because the caffeine keeps him awake afterwards.
Death To All is Hoglan with Steve DiGiorgio on bass, Bobby Koelble on guitar and Max Phelps singing. The three of them played on Death records between 1991 and 1995, and the Australian set covers the whole catalogue, from Scream Bloody Gore to The Sound Of Perseverance.
