Metallica played Devil's Dance at Sphere in Las Vegas on Saturday 3 October, the second night of the band's Life Burns Faster residency. It was the first performance of the song since 7 June 2008, a gap of eighteen years and four months.
The track comes from Load and sat fourth in the set, after Blackened, Fuel and Leper Messiah. Later in the night the band also played The Outlaw Torn, last heard on 8 September 2019. The rest ran 72 Seasons, King Nothing, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), a Kirk and Rob doodle, The Unforgiven, Orion, Hardwired, Whiskey In The Jar, For Whom The Bell Tolls, One and Enter Sandman.
The structure is what produces the rarities. The residency is twenty four performances arranged as twelve No Repeat Weekend engagements across October, November, January, February and March, and the Thursday and Saturday of each pairing share no songs at all, the same arrangement the M72 tour has used. Two sets with nothing in common means more than thirty different songs across a weekend.
The run opened on 1 October and finishes on 13 March 2027. The band opened a blood drive in the city alongside it, as it has at four previous stops.
