Dread Witch release Cult tomorrow, and for a doom band four years old that is a fast pace.

Eight tracks, from Born Again to Omen of Oblivion, with the title track and Altar already out. Altar carries a guest vocal from Sofia Schmidt, and it is the song that got this band heard outside Denmark.

Aarhus is not where anybody looks for doom and sludge, which has worked in their favour: nothing about the record sounds like it was made to fit a scene, because the scene around it is doing something else entirely.

Bottomless Pit have carried the videos, the album goes out independently, and the whole thing runs short enough to be heard twice in an evening. For a genre that rewards patience and punishes padding, eight songs is the right number.

Four years from forming to a second album, in a style where bands routinely take that long to finish one, is the detail worth holding on to. Whatever else Cult turns out to be, it was not laboured over until the life went out of it.
