Dream Theater have started their seventeenth album. The band put up a photograph of all five of them at Ytse Jam Studios, their own room, and confirmed it is the follow up to Parasomnia, which came out in February 2025.
All five is the detail worth noting. This is the second record since Mike Portnoy came back, and the first one where the line up arrives at the writing already settled rather than reassembling itself in public. Parasomnia had to prove the reunion worked; this one does not.
Nothing else has been said. No title, no date, no label statement, which for a band that tours on eighteen month cycles means a release somewhere in 2027 at the earliest and nothing worth guessing about before then.
Ytse Jam is where most of their recent work has been done, so the photograph is also a way of saying the record is being made the way the last one was.
