Jack Donovan is out of hospital. The Elder bassist, who fell ill on the American tour and whose band stopped the run to look after him, is home after about two weeks and one open heart surgery, and the band say he is well on the road to a full recovery.
The part worth reading twice is the diagnosis. Donovan was taken ill before the show at the Wonder Ballroom in Portland on 22 September, driven to the emergency room by friends, moved to intensive care, treated for pneumonia and put on a ventilator. Over the following days the doctors found that he had been living with serious congenital heart problems, and that those were the actual cause.
The band credit the people who got him there quickly with saving his life, and thank the team at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center by name. A chest infection in a touring musician is the kind of thing a band usually works through. This one was a heart condition nobody knew about.
The practical news is short. Make up dates for the postponed shows are close to being confirmed, and the February run with Temple Fang and REZN is unaffected.
