Embryectomy have released Vitriolic Baptism, their third album, through Unique Leader Records.
Nine songs, none of them over four minutes, which is the right length for what this is. Slam works on repetition and impact, and a record that lets any one idea run long stops working almost immediately.
Unique Leader matters here. The label has been the address for technical and brutal death metal since the late nineties, and a Greek band landing a third album on it has got past the point where this is a local concern. Greece has a deep death metal tradition that rarely gets exported, so the signing is the news as much as the record.
The song titles follow the genre's own grammar of medical violence, from "Chainsaw Symphysiotomy" to "Cranioclastic Infanticide", which will either tell you everything you need or tell you to leave. The band have made nine releases in all and know precisely who they are addressing.
