Epitaphe have released III, their third album, on Aesthetic Death for the CD and the vinyl and on Gurgling Gore for the cassette.
It holds five songs across fifty four minutes: "Half-Light", "Windswept", "Spring Frost", "Transient" and "Liminal". The band have never written short, and the length is the point rather than an indulgence: the death metal is harsher here than on II, and it is set against acoustic passages, saxophone, clean voices and long ambient stretches that take their time arriving somewhere.
James Leonard recorded it at Mémoire Mécanique and Pentachrome Wave and mixed it, and Greg Chandler mastered it at Priory, which is the studio behind a good part of what English funeral doom sounds like.
They come from Claix, near Grenoble, started in 2009 as Epitaph and took the present name in 2016, when the line up settled into the four initials it still uses: PBFK sings, LBK plays guitar, DRZ bass and VLVR drums. I came in 2019 and II in 2022.
