Eternity's End have put out a lyric video for The Abyss Watchers, the third song from Titanblood, which Scarlet Records release on 6 November.
The title belongs to Dark Souls, where the Abyss Watchers are a covenant of soldiers who fought the dark by becoming part of it and then fight each other forever. For a band whose other songs have gone to Michael Moorcock and to Greek myth, a video game is simply the next shelf along.
Musically it is the one that takes the longest route. The band call it the most progressive thing on the record and point at early Dream Theater and Symphony X, which in this case means the sections do not repeat when you expect them to and the guitar is doing arithmetic rather than just playing fast.
That is a reasonable third single. The first two sold the speed, and the album is their fourth. This one tells anybody still deciding that there is more than speed on it.
