Everdawn have dated Kali, their third album, for 15 January through Frontiers Music, and released Illusionist as the first song from it.

The band are from New Jersey, which is not where symphonic metal usually comes from. The genre is a European habit, and the handful of American bands working in it have mostly had to build an audience abroad first. Having Mike LePond on bass helps, since Symphony X are the one American group that made this kind of scale work at home.

Illusionist is about ambition eating the person who has it. The band describe it as what happens when success becomes an obsession and deception triumphs over morality, until even a life can become a price worth paying, and they are blunt that it ends badly: no illusion lasts forever.

They describe the record as a journey through creation and destruction, which with a title taken from the goddess of both is the only description available.

Frontiers have been the home for this kind of thing for twenty years, and a January release puts it well clear of the December traffic.
