Dungeon Serpent have released "Rainland's Elegy", the first song in five years from the Vancouver project, and the opening of Lamentations of the Shadowkingdoms, out on 30 October through Profound Lore Records.
The middle of the song is where the record shows its hand. Melodic sequences that owe everything to Dismember run into modal jazz chord movement, key changes and bass solos, and none of it is presented as a departure: the aggression never lets up around it.
Arawn does all of it, vocals, guitars, keyboards and bass. World of Sorrows, in 2021, was the first album; six pieces make up this one.
