Floating have released Hands of Hunger, the first song from Firewatching, which Transcending Obscurity Records will put out in early 2027.
The band work in a borderland that very few groups bother with: post-punk and death metal at the same time, with the guitars owing as much to the one as the other. On this record the label says they have added hypnotic krautrock rhythms and synthesizers, which is a stranger set of tools than the genre usually reaches for and the reason this is worth hearing rather than filing.
They describe the result as both bleaker and more brutal than before, which sounds like a contradiction until you remember that repetition is the point of krautrock and relentlessness is the point of death metal.
The group have grown to a four piece, and the line-up is now Arvid Sjödin on vocals and guitars, Andreas Hörmark on bass and synthesizers, Påhl Sundström on guitars and Erik Sundström on drums. Sundström also made the artwork.
This Uppsala band released The Waves Have Teeth in 2022 and Hesitating Lights last year, so Firewatching will be their third full length in five years.
