Floating have released Wet Grass, the second song out of Firewatching on Transcending Obscurity.

The label describes the record as a borderland between post punk and death metal, and that is a more honest description than most label copy manages. This is a band whose rhythm section does not behave the way a death metal rhythm section is supposed to, and the guitars spend as much time ringing out as chugging.

Whether that combination holds together is the question the album has to answer, and Hands of Hunger, the first song they put out from it, suggested it might.

Transcending Obscurity are the right home for it. The label has spent fifteen years signing bands that do not quite fit the genre they get filed under, and a Swedish group playing death metal through a post punk filter is exactly the kind of thing that ends up there rather than on a bigger roster.

Wet Grass is a title that belongs to the post punk half, and so does most of the song.
