Francesco Paoli of Fleshgod Apocalypse has had reconstructive surgery on the hand he injured falling while rock climbing in 2021. He posted photographs afterwards and called it his new hand.
Five years is the part that gives the scale of the injury. He went back to singing, then to drumming, and the hand has needed rebuilding in stages ever since, and he says another operation may be required next year to finish the job.
The band have already planned around it. Rather than book a run and hope, they left the possibility of a second surgery inside the touring schedule so that nothing has to be cancelled when the date comes, which is an unglamorous piece of organisation and the reason their last three years have not had holes in them.
He thanked the surgeons and the people who have followed the recovery. He has been reporting it himself from the start rather than letting the band announce it, which has made the whole thing unusually legible for something this private.
