All four versions of Gaerea's Shallow are now out, and the last one is a piano arrangement with Juan L. Otaiza.
The series ran in two days: the psytrance collaboration with Paranormal Attack on the 27th, the acoustic version with cellist Jo Quail the following day, and now the full set, which also contains the ordinary studio recording the other three were made from.
The band have finally said what the song is about, and it is not oblique. "Shallow was written on the edge where depression and clarity briefly meet in an endless dance," they say. "It is a song about hoping for a brighter day while sinking deeper into the dark sheets of self loathing."
They call it one of the most experimental things they have made and tie it to ten years of the band, which explains the format. A song you can hear four ways is a reasonable way to mark a decade of a project whose entire public face has been a refusal to show one.
