Garden of Stone have released their version of Satumaa-tango, the fourth single from For the World of the Obsolete, which Inverse Records issue on 11 December.
The original belongs to Maija Vilkkumaa and is one of the better known Finnish pop songs of the past thirty years. The band leave the composition where it was and change everything around it, with double bass drumming underneath and screamed vocals over the top, which looks like a bad idea on paper and works better than it has any right to. Janne Lehto arranged it, and Joona Muistola mixed and mastered it at HAW Studios.
The band call themselves death metal mostly for the sake of having an answer, then list rock, shoegaze, melodic death, black and progressive metal among the things they take from. They formed in 2023, put out the Tides of Decay EP in 2024 and The Grave Mistake a year after that, which makes this their third release in three years.
The line up is Jesse Salo on vocals, Jere Mantysalo and Ville Penkari on guitars, Kalle Hanninen on bass and Tapio Haverinen on drums. Matias Stenman made the artwork.
